They may be beautiful to look at, but these carved sandstone steps (just one section of a much larger stairway) which join the upper gardens to the lower lawn are lethal when covered with leaves. However, the very same leaves make fantastic mulch which can be used next year on the many borders and beds around the gardens. After carefully raking and sweeping the entire stairway, the leaves are collected and transported to the dedicated leaf mulching bins.
