Country cottage garden in full bloom

ABOUT US

Passionate about gardening

At That’s Better Gardening, we’re all about creating beautiful gardens and caring for them like our own. That’s because for us, gardening is more than a job, it’s work borne out of a passion. A passion not just for our own beautiful gardens, but the gardens and outdoor spaces that can add so much to the quality of our lives. Large or small, town or country, tidy-ups to transformations, our aim is to bring the same care and attention to gardens in and around the Kent/East Sussex border as our own. Because at the end of the day, nothing beats the satisfaction of looking at a job well done and being able to say, “That’s Better!”

“Gardening is something you do, a gardener is someone you are.”

What we stand for

Our core values

Old School Values

Our broad gardening experience and deep rooted passion is complemented by what we refer to as old school values:- dependability, reliability, fairness, working hard and delivering value for money. And, when the going gets tough, you’ll find we’ll not just get going, but we’ll keep going, even going the extra mile. After all, it’s not just what you do, but the way that you do it that matters and which results in a growing number of happy customers who can say, “That’s Better Gardening!”

Eco-Friendly Tools

There’s something profoundly rewarding about using the right tool for the job which is why we always have a comprehensive selection with us at all times. When it comes to power tools, we’ve invested in a range of eco-friendly, high-powered equipment – from mowers to strimmers to trimmers, even pole saws and chainsaws. These are much quieter and fume free which makes them ideal for working in urban situations, especially where there are small children and pets. Now even the environment can say, “That’s Better Gardening!”

Fresh Creative Approach

Beauty may well be in the eye of the beholder, but sometimes it takes a fresh pair of experienced eyes to see the beauty in a garden when it is still very much at the mere potential stage. And beauty in the garden is so much more than skin deep for while colours are important, they are just one facet of many that combine to bring true, sustained beauty. Moreover, a garden changes throughout the year which brings multiple opportunities and considerations to bring beauty to all the senses: sight, sound, taste, touch and smell. Get it right and on every level, the whole year round, your whole garden will agree, “That’s Better Gardening!”

Owner & Head Gardener

“When gardeners garden, it is not just the plants that grow, but the gardeners themselves.”

About Chris

Chris has been a life-long gardener with some of his earliest memories being of digging enormous holes in the garden while helping his dad plant vegetables. It was his dad, a life long gardener, that instilled in him a love of tending fruit and vegetables while his appreciation of plants, flowers and shrubs came from his mum.

Chris has enjoyed creating and tending many gardens and several allotments over the years, at home and abroad. He shares his deep love and passion for gardening with his wife Helen and in 2017 this led to them taking on their most ambitious gardens yet, the restoration of an acre of overrun cottage gardens on the edge of ancient woodland in East Sussex.

A Collaborative Approach

We recognise there are times that we need to work as part of a wider team and are happy to work in a either a lead or support capacity. We also work on a collaborative bases with a select network of other specialists who share the same values as ourselves.
