Project Description

The first project in this new garden was to make a feature of of this unsightly overgrown bank which was the first part of the garden people saw when visiting this beautiful home. Fortunately the client and I had exactly the same idea – wouldn’t this make an amazing rock garden?

The design as well as sourcing materials was left to me so what better way to begin planning by clearing the entire area of weeds and grading the bank into a consistent slope. To minimise any residual weed regrowth we then covered this with weed suppressant membrane edged with some reclaimed firebricks before adding several tonnes of quality top soil. Next we had to hand pick, transport and arrange the rocks which would form the structure for all alpine plants to nestle into.

Armed with a list of acceptable and unacceptable colours, a fun morning was spent at a garden centre specialising in amongst other things perennial alpines. Safely transported back to the garden, careful thought then went into the layout to achieve a strong mix of colour and texture throughout spring and summer. Once the client was happy, it was then just the small matter of planting and watering everything. The result was not only a stunning transformation but one which the client said captured exactly what she had in her mind.

Can we do the same for you?
